Vanuatu Bureau of Statistics Launches Key Statistical Products to Empower Data-Driven Decisions

The Vanuatu Bureau of Statistics (VBoS) marked a significant milestone with the launch of a series of crucial statistical products on Thursday, June 27th, at the National Convention Centre. This momentous occasion underscores the government's commitment to transparency and data-informed decision-making.

The launch event featured insightful addresses from representatives of key ministries, including Health, Internal Affairs, Agriculture, and Finance. The impressive turnout of Development Partners, Diplomats, and Government Officials showcased the widespread interest and support for these critical initiatives.

A total of nine valuable statistical products and tools were unveiled, each designed to provide vital data and insights to guide policy and planning across various sectors. Key highlights include:

• Vanuatu National Agriculture Census (VNAC) Basic Provisional Tables Report: This report equips the productive sector with critical information for informed decision-making.
• Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) Key Indicators Report: Offering comprehensive insights into socio-economic indicators with a focus on population health.
• Thematic Reports on Youth, Disability, and Gender: Derived from the 2020 National Population and Housing Census (NPHC), these reports shed light on the conditions, opportunities, and challenges faced by specific demographics within Vanuatu.
• Preliminary Population Projections (2020-2050): Essential tools for future planning, these projections anticipate population trends, enabling effective resource allocation for sustainable development.
• Constituency Profiles: Tailored from the 2020 NPHC data, these profiles provide a comprehensive picture of demographic, social, and economic trends within each of Vanuatu's 18 constituencies.
• Second National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) 2024-2028: This strategy strengthens coordination within the National Statistical System and incorporates a plan for developing disaster-related statistics, ultimately improving post-disaster assessments and response efforts.
• Statistical Development Plan for Vanuatu Disaster-Related Statistics: A comprehensive strategy to enhance disaster-related data collection, coordination, and dissemination in Vanuatu for effective disaster risk management and climate change adaptation.
• National Sustainable Development Plan (NSDP) Indicator Tracking Platform (URL to be made available soon!): This online resource aligns with the NSDP Monitoring and Evaluation Framework, providing real-time data on national development priorities, demographics, education, trade, and finances. It serves as a valuable tool for policymakers, researchers, and the public.
• High Frequency Phone Survey Analysis Report: Conducted in partnership with the World Bank in 2022, this survey represents a pioneering effort in phone-based data collection, offering improved efficiency and timeliness.
• VBoS Website: The revamped website boasts improved navigation and functionality, making it easier for users to access a wealth of statistical information and resources.

The development of these statistical products is a testament to successful collaboration between VBoS and various partners, including the Food and Agriculture Organization, The University of Melbourne, Paris21, The World Bank, and several international development agencies.

The launch of these vital resources signifies a significant leap forward in Vanuatu's pursuit of robust data collection, improved planning, and ultimately, better outcomes for the nation. By embracing these tools, Vanuatu is not only strengthening its current capabilities but also laying a solid foundation for a prosperous future.
