VBoS 2024 Annual Retreat
The Vanuatu Bureau of Statistics (VBoS) recently concluded its successful five-day annual retreat held at the Ramada from March 11th to 15th, 2024. This year's retreat focused on strategic planning, staff development, and organizational improvements.
The retreat aimed to achieve several key objectives, all of which were successfully met:
- Understanding and Implementing the 2024 Annual Business Plan: Staff members gained a thorough understanding of the VBoS's 2024 Annual Business Plan and collaboratively established strategic actions for its effective implementation.
- Completing PSC Staff Appraisals (Section A): The retreat provided a dedicated space for staff to complete Section A of their PSC Staff Appraisals.
- Consultation on the Proposed VBoS Revised Organisational Structure: A revised organizational structure for the VBoS was presented and discussed, allowing for valuable staff consultation and feedback.
- Developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Staff members from each section actively participated in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aligned with their respective workplans.
The retreat featured a well-structured program with informative presentations and interactive sessions. Day 1 began with presentations on the 2023 Annual Report and individual section work plans for 2024. Staff also received training on using Microsoft Word Planner, a valuable tool for enhancing project management.
Days 2 and 3 focused on staff development and organizational improvements. Staff participated in presentations and discussions on PSC Staff Appraisals, the proposed VBoS revised organizational structure, National Accounts, Climate Change & Disaster Statistics, Machine Learning, and Well-being projects. A guest speaker session was also planned for Day 3.
The final two days of the retreat were dedicated to developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for each section. Staff actively participated in crafting SOPs that will streamline workflow and improve efficiency within their respective areas.
The retreat concluded with a fun activity day, providing staff with a welcome opportunity to relax, bond, and engage in team-building exercises outside the traditional work environment. This day fostered camaraderie and a sense of unity amongst colleagues, solidifying the positive outcomes achieved throughout the retreat.
